Vidya Vekhande has been the Vice Chairman and Director of the Thane Jilha Madhyavarti Sahkari Bank for 10 years, fulfilling her father’s dream. Despite life’s challenges, she proved that determination leads to success. A married woman and mother of two, she shares her inspiring journey.
While many children dream of becoming doctors or engineers, her dream was to take her father’s place as Chairman of the bank. Her father, Vittal Khade, served as founder and chairman for 56 years. Inspired by his dedication, she followed his path with hard work and commitment.
Her father inspired not only her professional journey but also her passion for social service. After completing her Bachelor of Arts from Yashwantrao Chavan Vidyapith, she actively engaged in social work.
She joined Yashaswini Abhiyan, where she trained women in skills like stitching and small-scale business activities. She also established a school in Shahapur under Shaileshnik Education Association, providing education up to 12th standard.
In 2003, she joined Thane Jilha Madhyavarti Sahkari Bank as Director. The bank, founded by her father, was dedicated to helping tribal communities and farmers across Thane district.
Over 56 years, the bank expanded to 52 branches. She joined with a vision to take her father’s legacy to new heights and further strengthen the institution.
She launched initiatives to create awareness among women about financial services. One of her key initiatives was Bachat Gat, helping women from lower-income groups open savings accounts.
Today, over 20,000 Bachat Gat accounts have been created. She also ensured that bank staff assist less-educated customers in understanding schemes and services comfortably.
Under her leadership, the bank expanded to over 101 branches across Thane district. Her initiatives received overwhelming public response and strengthened trust among customers.
The bank has received three prestigious awards from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for its outstanding services to society.
